In addition the DB also gives the movie title in which the car appeared. The relevance or role of the car in the movie is rated from 1-5 stars. 5 stars is where the vehicle is part of the movie. 4 stars, the vehicle is used a lot by a main character or for a long period of time in the movie. Time capsule. Days when Jaguar had global panache

Watch these two videos on how sophisticated Jaguar was at marketing the E-Type. A combination of British pizazz, flair and a ton of "savoir faire". A bygone golden era never again to be equaled.
Update. A Fan wrote to tell us that when his father took delivery of a new 3.4 Mk II at the Factory,  sitting on the passenger seat were a dozen roses for his mother. What class!

HISTORY & VIDEO of the JAGUAR XKSS

From Wikipedia
The Jaguar XKSS was a road-going version of the Jaguar D-Type racing car.
After Jaguar withdrew from racing the company offered the remaining, unfinished chassis as the roadgoing Jaguar XKSS, by making changes to the racers: adding an extra seat, another door, a full-width windshield and folding top, as concessions to practicality. However, on the evening of 12 February 1957, a fire broke out at the Browns Lane plant destroying nine of the twenty-five cars that had already been completed or were semi-completed. Production is thought to have included 53 customer D-types, 18 factory team cars, and 16 XKSS versions.
Following Jaguar's withdrawal from competition at the end of the 1955 season, a number of completed and partially complete D-types remained unsold at the Browns Lane factory. In an attempt to recoup some of the investment made in building these unused chassis, and to exploit the lucrative American market for high-performance European sports cars, Sir William Lyons decided to convert a number to full road-going specification. Only minor changes were made to the basic D-type structure: the addition of a passenger side door, the removal of the large fin behind the driver's seat, and the removal of the divider between passenger and driver seats. In addition, changes were made for cosmetic, comfort and legal reasons: a full-width, chrome-surrounded windscreen was added; sidescreens were added to both driver and passenger doors; a rudimentary, folding, fabric roof was added for weather protection; chromed bumpers were added front and rear (a styling cue later used on the E-type); XK140 rear light clusters mounted higher on the wings; and thin chrome strips added to the edge of the front light fairings. In total 16 XKSS variants were made, with most being sold in the USA, before the Browns Lane fire destroyed the remaining chassis.
The American actor Steve McQueen owned a Jaguar XKSS for personal use.

THE MOST EXPENSIVE CARS IN THE WORLD

Of interest in the first video there was a major screw-up by Christie's regarding the Auto-Union race car. It never sold as there was a question to the history and credentials of the car. It was later withdrawn from the auction. The full story of the 1939 Auto Union Type D at that was to be auctioned by Christie's is well documented HERE. Enjoy the FOUR part videos

Graham Hill: Driven was a one-off television documentary that chronicled the life of the British motor racing driver Graham Hill.
The documentary was produced by Mark Stewart Productions, and was first shown in front of a private audience of around 60 people, including Hill's widow, daughters and son, on March 8, 2007.[1] Following this, it was sent to a number of television companies to view, with the BBC eventually acquiring rights to show the programme in the UK. its first television showing was on BBC Four on May 26, 2008.[2]
The programme combines archive footage of Hill both racing and making public appearances with contemporary interviews. Home movie footage of Hill at home with his family was also included in the programme. Viewing figures for its first airing were 240,000.

JAGUAR D-TYPE at the 2009 COUPES DE PRINTEMPS

Probably the best video yet of a Jaguar D-Type in full action. Feels almost as if you are sitting in the passenger seat. Erotic sound. EXCELLENT. Don't miss it

Was this the Jaguar E-Type OTS Deal of the Century? OR.....

PHOTO REMARKABLECARS.COM

This appears to be a case where a rare (Jaguar E-Type) Cat for some unknown reason went to the dogs. The above Jaguar E-Type Chassis # 876397 "Flatfloor" is purported or claimed to have 7,400 miles from new. (OMG! What a miracle!).

We decide to investigate and do some simple sleuth work using Google.

Our first stop takes us back in time to 2008 to the Barrett-Jackson Auction that took place in Las Vegas to LOT 813.1 . Here we read the description "7,400 Original Miles! The E-Type is considered by many to be one of those rare gifts to the automotive world. This brilliant car was the result of a very passionate team with a clear focus. So sensuous was its visual presence that it is widely considered to be the most attractive car ever built. This superb original example was bought new in Beverly Hills, California and was also owned by World Renown collector, Jack Ruscilli." and we note that LOT 813.1 SOLD FOR $77,000 including Buyer's premium. As you can see it is the same photo as in this Blog post. (WOW! What a deal.)

For our next stop we go to XKEData.com and look up the entry for Jaguar E-Type CHASSIS # 876397 and we read all the interesting comments. We make a note of the last comment dated 2010-02-18 and then follow that link to THE AUTO COLLECTIONS which is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. As you can see same photos as above, same description as in the 2008 Barrett-Jackson auction.

CONCLUSION: This Cat smells like a rat.

THE TENTH LIFE of A JAGUAR E-TYPE

BY MACK BESSER of ZZAAPP VINTAGE AUTO

In 1987, the current owner purchased the '63 E-rdst. with a 283 Chevy V-8 & Muncie 4 speed. I believe the modification & butchery came gratis. Driven for several years as is,(owner attempted peering behind dash once-decided against it!) things eventually failed and the car was allowed to stagnate. I wonder why? We were approached by a large shop in regards to taking on the project in it's present roughed-in condition. Grapevine has it: this was the 3rd shop said car had resided at, in the attempt to further upgrade the driveline. Now...we see a Dallas, TX. Jag V-8 conversion kit at work (?) for the 1st time. A FoMOCo 302 V-8 crate motor & Tremec 5 speed, with bolt-on Edelbrock fuel injection; all the parts look great! The car does not run, start or crank. I wonder why? The first item of business is to remove a bushel basket of erroneous wiring, phony switches, (controlling who/where/when?) Stewart-Warner gauges, as well as, E-type brackets, relays, vacuum tank, etc. no longer useful. Most items removed from behind dashboard.

.
FoMOCo V-8
Now it makes sense to install proper instruments, correctly color code repair wiring harness, contact P. Groh with the ignition switch key code number and obtain a key.(most folks just buy a new switch-that doesn't fit the doors!) I wonder why? New battery, connect the terminals...watch for smoke. Turn key on...watch for smoke. Push starter button...watch for smoke. It cranks! The F/I computer & assorted relays are not cooperating-no spark & no fuel. A Ford friend comes by: researches the Edelbrock instruction/wiring harness booklet, a few tests...fuel pump relay faulty. Said relay jumped & we have fuel & spark! Add gas, push button, starts right up! Even charges, boy, that saves time! I question the frame modifications and additions-requiring a call to a mechanical engineer associate. He will assess the critical aspects, and leave the decisions to the owner. Some assembly still required! LOL. I contacted Ford Motorsports dealer about the FoMOCo tag found epoxied to the lower right hand corner of the block.

I read the part number and was informed: 5.0 liter, roller cam, GT40 aluminum heads, 340 HP w/ a carburetor. The Edelbrock F/I probably adds 15-20 HP, according to Ford. Now what does the owner do about the brakes, wheel width and tires? 350 HP w/185 Michelin X tires on 5" rims, inadequate brakes (when car was new), etc. ZZAAPP Vintage Auto has all those answers. They just need application. ZZAAPP will be this Jaguar's last stop! ZZAAPPAUTO.

UPDATE DEC 21, 2010
Vented front rotors with Wildwood 4 pot alloy calipers.
Well, the '63 V-8 5 speed is running , charging  and shifting. Since we now have snow & salt, it will be a while before road testing. So, in preparation for Spring, we have upgraded the braking system; seeing that the original small pot/solid rotor system was substandard even when new! I trust that these photos are detailed enough for your viewing. Vented front rotors with Wildwood 4 pot alloy calipers & 30 percent larger front pads! Also, bigger calipers need more fluid, so 3/4" MKII master cylinders adapted to replace 5/8" of units. Small mods to cylinder housings allowed bolt in application to complete the upgrade & give plenty of PSI to the calipers, dual brake boosters fitted; giving double the hydraulic pressure from the master cylinders. With 360 HP on tap, this car now has the ability to slow down quickly! The front caliper & rotor "kit" as sold by XK'S Unlimited, Inc., needed only a slight modification to be a truly bolt-on upgrade. Can't wait 'til Spring!!!

THE MOST DECADENT MOTORING TOOL KIT EVER MADE

We all remember James Bond's famous catch phrase "Shaken not stirred" referring to his preference on how he wished to have his Martini (see recipe below) prepared. During the Golden Age of Motoring or Grand Touring as it is often called, cocktails were the rage of the high society. Many of the high end luxury goods manufacturers such as Alfred Dunhill, Harrods, Hermes and Cartier etc. catered their wares to the motorist. One of the most popular items was of course the cocktail shaker as Martinis and all sort of cocktails were so much in vogue. Below are pictures of a very exquisite motoring cocktail shaker from that era (circa 1948) that I carry in my Jag for those special occasions. Parked in a secluded spot, with the Jag XK 150S hood down, on such special occasions my non James Bond line was "How about a Martini under the stars darling?" It never failed. :-))

All the interiors are gold plated.
